If you’re looking for a beautiful natural escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, Yanbaru Forest is the perfect spot. This lush forest, located in the northern part of Okinawa Island, boasts a variety of hiking trails that lead you through the heart of the forest and provide breath-taking views of the surrounding landscape.
During my visit to Yanbaru Forest, I was impressed by the sheer size and diversity of the forest. The hiking trails range from easy to difficult, so there’s something for everyone. If you’re not up for a strenuous hike, there are plenty of shorter trails that offer stunning views of the forest canopy.
One of my favourite trails was the Yanbaru Discovery Forest Trail, which is perfect for families with children. The trail is a leisurely walk that takes you through a beautiful grove of trees and ends at a scenic viewpoint overlooking the forest. Another highlight was the Yanbaru Subtropical Forest Trail, which is a more challenging hike that takes you through some of the forest’s most spectacular scenery.
I recommend setting aside at least half a day to explore Yanbaru Forest, as there’s so much to see and do. There are picnic areas and rest stops throughout the forest, so it’s easy to take a break and enjoy the natural surroundings.

SNORKELLING AND DIVING
Okinawa is known for its stunning marine life, making snorkelling and diving two of the most popular activities on the island. With crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and an abundance of colourful fish, it’s no wonder why so many people flock to Okinawa for an unforgettable snorkelling or diving experience.
Personally, I highly recommend checking out Maeda Point for both snorkelling and diving. This spot is known for its breath-taking coral formations and a wide variety of marine life, including sea turtles and tropical fish. For those interested in diving, the Blue Cave is a must-see. This cave, named for its glowing blue waters, is home to a plethora of marine life and is a unique diving experience that should not be missed.
Equipment rentals and guided tours vary in price depending on the activity and location. However, you can expect to pay around 3,000-5,000 yen for snorkelling gear and 10,000-15,000 yen for a diving tour. Keep in mind that prices may vary depending on the provider.

I particularly enjoyed watching the traditional dance and music performances, which were held throughout the day. We would go as far as saying that it was one of our favourite Okinawa attractions.
