LOCATION OF WOOLACOMBE HOLIDAY PARK

When it comes to picking the perfect holiday spot, location is everything. And Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park truly shines in this regard.

Nestled on the North Devon coast in the South West of the United Kingdom, the park offered us a delightful mix of scenic beauty and accessibility that turned our stay into a memorable experience.

A Stone’s Throw from Woolacombe Village

One of the highlights of our recent trip was the park’s proximity to Woolacombe village. Just a short walk away, the village added a quaint charm to our holiday. It was convenient, especially with our energetic three-year-old, to have such a lovely spot nearby for quick visits or leisurely strolls.

Elevated Views to Remember:

Our caravan’s location was the icing on the cake. Positioned slightly elevated, we were treated to breathtaking views of Woolacombe Bay right from our living room window. Morning coffees never felt so luxurious!

Proximity to the Award-Winning Beach

Being close to Woolacombe beach, voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, was the cherry on top. The golden sands and gentle waves were inviting, and our little one had the time of his life building sandcastles and chasing the waves. The beach’s safe and clean environment meant we could relax and enjoy ourselves without a worry.

Sunsets Like No Other:

The holiday park, perched on top of a hill, offered panoramic views of the beach and sea that were nothing short of magical. One of our favourite moments was watching the sunset from the terrace of the main building. The sky painted in hues of orange and purple, with the calm sea reflecting the colours, was a sight to behold.

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park’s location promises not just a stay but an experience that lingers. The blend of natural beauty, the proximity to the village and beach, and the breathtaking views right from the comfort of our caravan made our family holiday something to reminisce about. If you’re looking for a place where scenic beauty, convenience, and family-friendly fun converge, this gem on the North Devon coast awaits!

HOW TO GET TO WOOLACOMBE BAY HOLIDAY PARK

Given the secluded nature of the three sites that make up Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks, driving is likely your best bet to get there.

Setting off on a road trip with an energetic three-year-old is always a mix of fun and unpredictability. Our recent journey to Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park was a perfect example. Leaving from Yorkshire, we were geared up for a blend of adventure and relaxation.

We loaded our car right after work, and the moment we hit the road, the holiday vibes kicked in.

On a whim, we decided to start our journey on Thursday evening post-work, opting for a midway rest at a hotel near Birmingham. This split in our travel plans not only provided a welcome break but also ensured our young one was recharged and eager for the day ahead.

By the time Friday rolled around, and after another 3.5 hours behind the wheel, the signs for Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park began to appear. The excitement of nearing our destination was palpable! And even with the winding country roads framed by hedgerows, Google Maps made navigation straightforward.

For those coming from the North, like Yorkshire or Manchester, expect a total drive time of around 6 hours. And if you’re setting out from London, plan for at least a 5-hour drive, traffic permitting.

But trust me, once you veer off the motorway and are greeted by North Devon’s picturesque landscapes, you’ll feel every second spent driving was worth it.

A Few Handy Tips:

Packing: It’s easy to overpack, but try to stick to the essentials and throw in a few fun items for the kids.

Breaks: Regular pit stops, especially with children, can make the journey more enjoyable and less exhausting.

Navigation: While Google Maps is super handy, it’s always a good idea to have an offline or traditional map as a backup.

OUR HOLIDAY HOME –  THE NEW WAVE GOLD CARAVAN

Stepping into the New Wave Gold Caravan at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park was like opening the door to a coastal haven.

The first thing that struck us was its spaciousness, with an airy feel that instantly made us feel at home.

Decorated with a modern, seaside-inspired palette of blues, oranges, and greys, the caravan exuded a vibe reminiscent of a chic VW camper van, blending retro surfy touches with contemporary elegance.

From the moment we entered, we were welcomed by the fresh scent of a brand-new space, making us wonder if we were among the first guests to experience the charm of G23 in the G sector of the park.

The caravan wasn’t just about aesthetics; it was thoughtfully designed with families in mind. The ample cooking and dining area seamlessly transitioned into the lounge, perfect for those relaxing evenings after a day of adventure.

Every space was designed with a blend of aesthetics and practicality in mind.

But it was the attention to detail, from the pristine cleanliness to the beautifully furnished interiors, that truly made our stay in the New Wave Gold Caravan a memorable one.

As a family with a lively three-year-old, finding a space that combined style with practicality was a win, and this caravan delivered on every front.

Added to that, our caravan was located just a short 3-minute stroll from the central building and its plethora of amenities. The convenience was undeniable!

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park Parking 1

PARKING AT THE CARAVAN

When you’re travelling with a lively three-year-old and a car full of luggage, the convenience of parking can make all the difference.

And at the New Wave Gold Caravan in Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park, we found that convenience in spades.

Pulling up to our caravan, we were pleasantly surprised to find a dedicated parking space right outside our door.

No trekking across the park with bags and a toddler in tow. Instead, we could smoothly transition from our car to our cosy caravan in just a few steps.

It’s the little things that count, and this was a big win in our books!

Now, I’ll admit, the space was snug, especially for those who are not well-versed in the art of reverse parking. But with a bit of manoeuvring our car fit perfectly.

It’s worth noting that while our spot was just right for our car, some neighbouring caravans boasted longer spaces, ideal for those travelling with larger vehicles.

The convenience didn’t stop at just the ease of unloading. Each day, as we set out to explore the beauty of North Devon, having our car right outside meant spontaneous adventures were always on the cards.

And returning? Just as effortless.

For those staying in different accommodations, worry not. The park is well-equipped with multiple parking areas, ensuring everyone has a spot.

And for the tech-savvy travellers with electric cars, charging stations are aplenty, especially over at Twitchen House.

In essence, parking at the New Wave Gold Caravan was a breeze, adding to the seamless experience of our stay.

It’s these thoughtful touches that transform a holiday from good to great. And at Woolacombe Bay, it’s clear that every detail, even parking, is crafted with guests in mind.

LAYOUT OF THE CARAVAN

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks has a range of accommodations to fit everyone’s preferences.

The New Wave Gold Caravan is a top pick, especially for families and couples. It has two cosy bedrooms – a double and a twin, making it ideal for a family of four.

The lounge also features a comfy double bed-settee, adding to the sleeping options.

For us – a couple with a bubbly three-year-old, it was just the right size. The caravan’s design felt so well-planned, giving us room to breathe and move.

Though it’s said to fit six, think about who’s coming along. It’s a dream for families with kids, with space for play and relaxation.

But, if you’re planning for six grown-ups, it might be a tight fit. Always choose based on your group’s comfort.

THE KITCHEN AND SELF-CATERING

As a family that loves to whip up meals together, especially with our eager three-year-old chef-in-the-making, we were delighted by what the caravan’s kitchen had to offer.

Despite our love for tent camping, the convenience of having a well-equipped kitchen made our stay all the more enjoyable.

Everything in the New Wave Gold Cravan kitchen is tailored to make whipping up breakfast, lunch or dinner for the family a breeze.

It’s spacious and open, ensuring that cooking isn’t a solitary affair but a shared experience with loved ones. The layout is open-plan, merging effortlessly with the dining and living area, so conversations flow freely as meals are prepared.

The kitchen was also stocked with just about everything we could wish for. From a full-sized cooker, microwave, and that full-sized retro-style fridge to essentials like a kettle. And for those who appreciate the details, they even had a potato peeler and grater!

The attention to detail was evident. A full dinner service of crockery is tucked away in the cupboards, alongside an array of cutlery, and even prosecco glasses for those special moments.

While the caravan didn’t have a dishwasher, washing up by hand was a breeze with a decently sized sink under the window. And for those bigger laundry needs, the park’s laundrette was just a short walk away.

It is also worth noting that the more expensive caravans and lodges do feature dishwashers.

In essence, whether you’re planning to eat in or dine out, the kitchen in the New Wave Gold Caravan ensures you’re well-equipped for both. So, if you’re considering a stay at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park, rest assured, your culinary adventures are well catered for!

THE LOUNGE

The lounge quickly became our family’s favourite spot to hang out, when we weren’t at the beach or enjoying the plethora of activities in the main building.

With a three-year-old in tow, finding a space that caters to both adult relaxation and a child’s playful nature isn’t always easy. Especially in a smaller space. But here, it felt like every detail was crafted with the entire family in mind.

Imagine walking into a bright and spacious area, adorned with vibrant decor and delightful Woolacombe artwork. It’s clear that every detail in this space has been thoughtfully curated.

The large L-shaped sofa, in a refreshing shade of blue, wraps around the room, offering a cozy spot for everyone. Whether it was our little one playing with his toys, or us adults sipping on our morning coffee, the lounge catered to all our needs.

Now, let’s talk entertainment. With a little one, the inclusion of a flat-screen Smart TV in the lounge was a godsend.  It meant peaceful evenings where our son was engrossed in his beloved shows, giving us a moment to breathe and bask in the serenity of our surroundings.

The Smart TV wasn’t just a hit for the kiddo – we were pretty smitten too. With options to dive into Freeview channels or explore the world of Netflix and Prime Video, every evening promised a new adventure on the screen.

Though, a little heads up, the signal can be a tad sketchy at times and we did struggle to update some of the apps.

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park Review Carvan layout

But no worries, there’s also a DVD player tucked beneath, ready for those movie nights. Just remember to pack your favourite DVDs or perhaps some classics for the little ones.

October evenings can be nippy, but not in the New Wave Gold Caravan. The cosy electric fire nestled in the living area was our nightly haven.

It cast a warm glow that danced around the room, turning chilly evenings into cozy nights wrapped in blankets, with cups of hot cocoa in hand.

It’s easy to picture couples enjoying a romantic evening, the soft light from the fireplace illuminating the room, a glass of wine in hand, and the world outside fading away.

Finally, the lounge wasn’t just a space to unwind – it morphed into whatever we needed it to be.

A dining area where laughter and stories flowed freely, a cozy nook for morning coffees with the day’s first rays of sunshine streaming in, and even a workspace for those moments when duty called.

So, whether you’re planning a family trip or a romantic getaway, this lounge promises comfort, entertainment, and those little moments that make holidays unforgettable.

THE DINING AREA

Dining together as a family is one of those cherished moments that we all look forward to, especially when on holiday.

The New Wave Gold Caravan offers a dining area within the main living space that’s functional and cozy.

While the caravan can comfortably sleep six, the dining area is designed with a cozy bench and two stools.

This setup is perfect for smaller families or couples, ensuring that mealtimes are intimate and memorable. For our family, with our three-year-old son always eager to hop onto the bench, it was just the right size.

However, if you’re planning a trip with a larger group or another family, you might find the dining space a tad snug for all six.

Some of the caravans however are thoughtfully provided with an outdoor picnic table. Even though this was unfortunately not the case with ours. So, on those sunny Woolacombe days, you might have the option to have your meal outside in the sunshine instead. The fresh air, the sound of nature, and the joy of dining al fresco can turn any meal into a special occasion.

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park Review Bedroom

THE MASTER BEDROOM

The master bedroom, positioned at the rear of the caravan, is a testament to thoughtful design and meticulous attention to detail.

As we stepped in, we were surprised by the decent sized bed. Even though it could not quite rival the proportions of our king-size bed back home, the bed was far more generous in size than we had expected in a caravan. And it could comfortably fit all three of us, if needed.

The added luxury of an en-suite with a toilet and washbasin was a delightful surprise, ensuring privacy and convenience, especially when traveling as a family or group.

Storage is often a concern when on holiday, but not in this caravan. The master bedroom boasts bedside shelves, a spacious wardrobe with a hanging rail, and even a small dressing table.

Every nook and cranny is designed to maximize space without compromising on aesthetics. The decor, light and airy, is accentuated by colourful curtains, adding a touch of Woolacombe’s charm to the room.

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park Review Bedroom 2

In today’s digital age, the inclusion of plug/USB sockets on either side of the bed was a thoughtful touch, ensuring our devices were always within arm’s reach.

While the overhead LED lighting illuminated the room brilliantly, we did feel the absence of softer reading lights for those quiet evenings when all you want is to dive into a good book.

While the bedroom layout is undeniably optimized for sleep, it doesn’t skimp on essentials. Side tables, easily accessible sockets, and a sizable closet ensure that all your needs are met.

The mirror in the room adds a touch of elegance and functionality, ensuring we looked our best before setting out on our daily adventures.

Admittedly, the beds might not rival the comfort of home, but after days filled with adventure and exploration, they provided a welcome respite.

The master bedroom in the New Wave Gold Caravan is more than just a space to rest. It’s a reflection of the caravan’s ethos – a blend of comfort, functionality, and a touch of luxury.

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park Review Twin Bedroom

THE TWIN BEDROOM

Whilst the master bedroom was our nightly adult retreat, the twin bedroom became a space of playful giggles, bedtime stories, and the soft hum of dreams for our three-year-old.

This room had two single beds, which were a bit smaller than usual but still comfortable.

If needed, you can push them together to make a larger bed. This is what we did to ensure our son wouldn’t tumble off the edge in the middle of the night and also to make bedtime a bit easier for us parents.

The room also had a wardrobe, which was handy for storing toys and our son’s clothes. Amidst the compact design of this room, this was a testament to the caravan’s practical design.

There’s a plug socket near the beds, but it’s positioned behind the bedside table, so charging phones was a bit tricky, once the two beds were pushed together.

Another socket near the wardrobe was more accessible, but out of reach whilst in bed.

The design of the room, with the two beds and space in between, was great for kids. Adults might find it a bit tight, but for kids, it’s just right.

Overall, the twin bedroom in the New Wave Gold Caravan at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park was both practical and comfortable. It was the first time our son slept in his own room on holidays and thus played a big part in making our stay memorable.

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park Review Main Bathroom 2

THE MAIN BATHROOM

Our caravan featured two well-equipped bathrooms, ensuring there were no morning queues or bedtime delays.

The main bathroom, conveniently located opposite the twin bedroom, was a blend of functionality and comfort. It wasn’t just a space to freshen up; it was a space designed with guests in mind.

The proximity to the twin bedroom meant that night-time trips to the bathroom for our potty-trained little one were quick and hassle-free.

Cleanliness is paramount to an enjoyable stay, and this bathroom didn’t disappoint. It was spotlessly clean, reflecting the high standards of hygiene and maintenance a Woolacombe Bay Caravan Park.

The shower water was consistently hot, a luxury that we greatly appreciated, although getting the pressure just right did require a bit of a dance with the controls. But once we got the settings just right, the water pressure was a lot stronger than I had expected for a caravan.

Storage is often overlooked in holiday accommodations, but not here. The bathroom was thoughtfully designed with a generous cabinet and shelves, making it easy to organize everything from our toiletries to out toddlers toys and keep the space tidy.

The mirror added to the functionality, ensuring we had everything we needed at our fingertips.

For families like ours, the heated towel rail was a godsend. Not only did they keep our towels warm and toasty, but they were also perfect for drying off swim gear after a day of splashing around.

It’s these thoughtful inclusions that elevate the experience at Woolacombe Bay, making each stay unique and memorable.

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park Review Main Bathroom

THE EN-SUITE BATHROOM

The en-suite bathroom attached to the double bedroom stood out as a thoughtful addition, designed with both convenience and space-efficiency in mind.

Equipped with a toilet and sink, it provided the essentials for personal hygiene.

While the en-suite might be described as snug, it was evident that every inch was meticulously planned to maximize utility.

The sink though small was spacious enough to store a few toiletries, and the toilet was positioned to allow comfortable use without feeling cramped.

One of the key advantages of having an en-suite, especially when vacationing with family, is the ease it brings to morning routines.

It allowed us to freshen up and start our days without disturbing our sleeping toddler, a small yet significant detail that made our stay all the more enjoyable.

Its presence also ensured that even in the morning rush or the bedtime routine with our three-year-old, there was a dedicated space to freshen up without waiting in line for the main bathroom.

While the main bathroom was the go-to spot for showers, the en-suite allowed for parallel tasks. One could be brushing teeth or washing up in the en-suite, while another took a shower in the main bathroom.

This efficient division of spaces meant that we could get started with our day’s adventures at Woolacombe Bay much quicker.

It’s often these little details that really elevate one’s experience. And it certainly did ours. Whether it’s the early morning rush or a mid-day freshen-up, having that extra bathroom space, no matter how compact, made our stay all the more relaxed and enjoyable.

However, for families or groups nearing the caravan’s maximum occupancy of six, it’s worth noting that shower facilities are limited to the main bathroom.

While the en-suite offers the convenience of an additional toilet and sink, planning shower schedules might be something to consider to ensure everyone is ready to head out on time.

UTILITIES IN THE CARAVAN

INTERNET AND CONNECTIVITY

In today’s digital age, even while embracing the serene beauty of nature, the need for a reliable internet connection remains paramount.

Our recent family getaway was a delightful mix of outdoor adventures and cozy moments in our New Wave Gold Caravan. But, like many modern families, we did have our share of digital needs.

Here’s our candid take on the internet and connectivity experience in our New Wave Gold Caravan.

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park ensures guests have access to free WiFi hotspots in all its venues. These hotspots, allow guests to stay updated, check emails, and engage in light browsing.

But while the park’s picturesque surroundings were a constant delight, our caravan’s internet connection presented a few challenges.

Despite our caravan’s distance from the main building, the connection was satisfactory. But we noticed that the signal strength wasn’t consistent throughout the caravan. And while basic tasks were manageable, more intensive online activities might require some patience.

Although this wasn’t a significant concern for us, thanks to our phone data, it’s something potential visitors might want to keep in mind. Especially for those who rely heavily on the internet for work or entertainment, it’s essential to set the right expectations.

In fact the park’s internet is designed to be family-friendly, discouraging heavy streaming to ensure a balanced digital experience for all guests.

Our attempts to unwind with some movies were thus thwarted when we were unable to update certain streaming apps. As much as we wanted to immerse ourselves in the natural beauty around us, we can’t deny the slight frustration of a buffering screen.

While this was a minor hiccup in our overall experience, it’s worth noting for guests planning movie nights.

On the brighter side, the WiFi in the main building proved to be more reliable.

And for those who can’t entirely disconnect from work, even on a vacation, the park does offer a more premium experience to guests at the Surf Village lodges. Here a dedicated personal router ensures super-fast streaming WiFi.

While the internet experience had its ups and downs, it was a gentle reminder to occasionally unplug, soak in the surroundings, and cherish the moments. After all, the best connections are often made offline, especially with the laughter and joy of a three-year-old echoing through the caravan.

HEATING THE CARAVAN

The New Wave Gold Caravan is well-equipped with a central heating system, which was essential during the colder nights of our October visit to Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks.

The heating system comes with a control panel in the corner of the living room that works on a timer, allowing us to heat the caravan for up to 10 hours. It took a bit of trial and error to get the temperature right, but we did end up finding a comfortable setting.

The thermostat made it easy to manage the heating. On colder evenings, we’d set it before heading out for dinner, ensuring we returned to a warm caravan.

The New Wave Gold Caravan also boasts an electric fire in the lounge. This addition proved invaluable for quickly warming up the room, especially on those brisk October mornings.

Overall, the heating in the New Wave Gold Caravan added to our comfort during the trip, making it a great choice for families visiting Woolacombe Bay, especially during cooler months.

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park Review Welcome Pack

WHAT’S PROVIDED IN THE CARAVAN TO START YOU OFF

Ah, the joys of packing for a family holiday!

Interestingly, while our pre-visit email did suggest packing essentials like washing-up liquid, sponges, and even toilet paper, the caravan pleasantly surprised us by providing a small selection of some of these items.

It’s a testament to Woolacombe Bay’s commitment to guest convenience and comfort.

THE WELCOME PACK

Stepping into the New Wave Gold Caravan, we were immediately greeted by a thoughtful touch – a welcome pack neatly placed on the kitchen counter.

Now, for families settling into you holiday can initially be a bit of a scramble. You’re unpacking, ensuring your little one is comfortable, and perhaps even thinking about that first meal.

This is where the welcome pack shines. Instead of rummaging through bags for cleaning supplies or making a quick dash to the nearest store, we had the essentials right at our fingertips.

The welcome kit, though basic, was a handy starter. It included:

  • a small bottle of washing-up liquid,
  • a bin bag
  • and a cleaning cloth.

It was evident that the park aimed to ease guests into their stay without the immediate need to dash to the local store.

Such inclusions might seem minor, but they significantly streamline those first few hours, letting families transition smoothly into vacation mode. It meant we could focus on making memories with our son, rather than fretting over household chores.

FRESH BEDDING

Upon stepping into the caravan, we were greeted with beds that were meticulously made up. Each bedroom was adorned with crisp bed linens, ensuring a fresh and hygienic sleeping environment for guests.

The fact that bedding was included as standard in our caravan stay, instantly made us feel valued and taken care of.

The beds were equipped with plump duvets and pillows, providing the perfect balance of softness and support.

These bedding essentials were instrumental in ensuring a restful night’s sleep, especially after a day filled with adventures and activities.

However, while the bedding was undeniably comfortable, we did notice a minor hiccup.

Occasionally, the cushion cover would shift during the night, revealing an uncomfortable protective layer beneath. This required a bit of adjustment, especially in the middle of the night, to ensure uninterrupted sleep.

Nevertheless, this minor inconvenience was overshadowed by the overall comfort and warmth the bedding provided.

For families, especially those with young children, the importance of a good night’s sleep cannot be overstated. And each morning in the New Wave Gold Caravan, we woke up rejuvenated, ready to embrace another day of exploration and fun at Woolacombe Bay.

TOWEL PROVISION

As we geared up for our October beach trip, towels were among the items we contemplated packing.

First off, it’s important to highlight that the gold caravans don’t come with towels as a default amenity.

This stands in stark contrast to some of the park’s upscale accommodations, such as the New Wave Diamond Caravan and the Surf Village Lodges, where guests receive both large and smaller towels.

In the end, we opted to order a towel pack online. At £15, it felt a bit on the pricier side but offered the convenience of not lugging our towels with us on the long car journey.

An added perk was avoiding the chore of cleaning sandy towels upon our return.

When we arrived, a pack of pristine, fluffy towels greeted us. While they served their purpose and felt soft against the skin, we did feel they could have been a tad larger.

For anyone thinking of a stay at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks, it’s crucial to understand that towel offerings differ depending on your chosen accommodation.

So, before embarking on your trip, it’s wise to verify if towels are part of your package. If they aren’t, you’ll need to decide between ordering the park’s set or packing your own.

This will ensure you’re well-prepared and can avoid any last-minute scrambles or surprises.

TRAVEL COT AND HIGHCHAIR PROVISION

As a parent ensuring the comfort of your little ones is paramount. We were therefore pleased to discover that Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks offer the option to hire travel cots, high chairs, and even bed guards for your stay.

This is a fantastic service, especially for families who’d rather not lug around bulky baby equipment.

However, it’s essential to pre-book these items before your stay. And for those considering this option, it’s worth mentioning that it costs £15 for a week to hire both cots and high chairs, and £5 to hire bed guards.

A quick note on the travel cots: while they come with a lightly padded bottom, you’ll need to pack your own cot linen.

For those seeking extra comfort for their little one, it might also be a good idea to bring along your travel cot mattress.

Space-wise, while the New Wave Gold Caravan is roomy, fitting a travel cot in beside the beds might be a squeeze.

Thankfully, the beds in the twin room in the caravan are the type that can be folded away to make room for the cot. You can add a request for this to be done for you to your booking before your stay.

For those staying in one of the apartments or lodges, you’ll likely find ample space in the main bedroom for the cot.

Now, let’s talk high chairs. The ones provided by the park are comfortably padded and come with a handy removable tray – perfect for those messy meal times!

On a personal note, our press trip status meant that the cot and highchair were graciously provided at no extra charge. We truly appreciated this gesture. However, regular guests should be prepared for the nominal fee.

These provisions are a testament to the park’s commitment to ensuring guests of all ages have a memorable and comfortable stay. So, we would suggest you pack light, pre-book, and get ready for a hassle-free family getaway!

PACKING ESSENTIALS FOR A STAY IN THE NEW WAVE GOLD CARAVAN AT WOOLACOMBE BAY

As any seasoned traveller knows, a little preparation goes a long way. While the caravan offers numerous amenities, there are a few essentials that aren’t part of the package.

So, for families gearing up for their Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park experience, here’s a handy guide on what to pack to ensure a seamless stay.

First things first, the welcome pack. While it’s a thoughtful gesture, don’t expect to find fridge staples like milk, butter, or eggs.

If you’re anything like us and need that morning cuppa, it’s wise to either pack some coffee, tea, milk and sugar. Or you could grab it from the local Nisa shop within the park before you go to bed.

For those culinary enthusiasts planning to whip up meals, remember to pack a few additional kitchen items.

The caravan doesn’t come stocked with items like a large bottle of washing-up liquid, tea towels, or specific utensils such as a scale. And if you’re planning a roast or a bake-off, don’t forget those oven gloves!

Hygiene is paramount, especially with a toddler in tow. Surprisingly, the caravan doesn’t provide hand soap in the bathrooms.

Also, while there’s a token toilet roll in each bathroom, it’s prudent to pack some extras.

And for those who consider toiletries like shampoo and conditioner a must-have, remember to toss them into your bag.

For a comprehensive checklist, here’s what we recommend you bring:

  • Coffee, Tea, Milk and Sugar
  • Salt, Pepper and Cooking Oil
  • Perhaps ingredients for dinner and breakfast
  • Kitchen Roll, Cling Film and Tin Foil
  • Tea Towels
  • Washing Up Utensils (or Dishwasher Tabs)
  • Additional Bin Bags
  • Kitchen scales
  • Oven Gloves
  • Toiletries, including hand soap and shampoo
  • Extra Toilet Rolls
  • Bath Mats
  • Hairdryes
  • Cot Mattress (if you’ve opted for a cot)
  • DVDs and Boardgames
  • Iron and a compact ironing board (for extended stays)
  • Maybe a Handheld Vacuum for quick clean-ups

If you’re staying longer and foresee daily kitchen escapades, the on-site shop can cater to most of your shopping needs.

THE SURF VILLAGE AND OTHER ALTERNATIVE ACCOMODATION OPTIONS

As we explored the park, we couldn’t help but notice the myriad of accommodation options available, each promising a unique experience tailored to different preferences and needs.

Woolacombe Bay boasts a diverse range of caravans, catering to various budgets and desires.

From the more modest Bronze and Silver caravans to the luxurious Diamond caravans, complete with their own decks and hot tubs, there’s something for everyone.

Each caravan type offers its own set of amenities, ensuring that every guest finds their perfect match.

THE ALLURING SURF VILLAGE

While caravans are a popular choice, the Surf Village stands out as a premium segment within the park.

Nestled within this village are large wooden lodges, many equipped with hot tubs. Imagine relaxing in a spacious hot tub, bubbles caressing you, as you soak in the mesmerizing views.

And for those who cherish outdoor dining, the lodges come with an outdoor deck equipped with a gas-powered BBQ and a picnic table, perfect for those al fresco dinners.

An added convenience is the outdoor shower, perfect for a quick rinse after a day at the beach.

The Surf Lodges are designed to accommodate varying group sizes. Whether you’re a group of six or eight, there’s a lodge just for you.

These lodges are thoughtfully designed, featuring bedrooms that range from king-sized to twin rooms.

MORE THAN JUST CARAVANS

The park also offers surf pods with a distinct beachy vibe, providing a unique blend of comfort and adventure.

And if you’re someone who loves the traditional camping experience, the park has designated tent areas where you can pitch your tent and be one with nature.

Regardless of your choice of accommodation, convenience is a given. Most properties come with a large private parking area, accommodating up to two cars. This ensures that your vehicle is safe and within easy reach, adding to the hassle-free experience.

In conclusion, whether you’re a family with young kids, a couple on a romantic getaway, or a group of friends seeking adventure, Woolacombe Bay has something special in store for you.

FACILITIES AT THE CARAVAN SITE

Our recent weekend getaway to Devon was nothing short of a blast, and a significant part of that joy stemmed from the Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park’s comprehensive selection of amenities.

As we strolled around, soaking in the ambiance, it became abundantly clear that this wasn’t just any holiday park. And as we explored each facility, a recurring thought was, “If only we could stay a bit longer!”.

So in the following section we are going to explore all the reasons why Woolacombe Bay is the place to be, if you’re looking for a fun-packed, hassle-free family holiday.

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park Review Reception

THE MAIN RECEPTION BUILDING

As we drove into the caravan park, the reception building immediately grabbed our attention, not just in its size but in the promise of the experiences it held within.

The building, grand, modern, yet welcoming, housed not just the reception but also an array of facilities that promised to make our stay as entertaining as it was comfortable.

For families like ours, with a bustling three-year-old in tow, knowing that everything you need is under one roof is a blessing.

As we explored the building, we couldn’t help but marvel at the plethora of amenities housed within the same building.

A well-stocked bar and an expansive outdoor terrace promised refreshing evenings watching the sunset. The restaurant wafted aromas of delicious cuisines ready to tantalize our taste buds. The arcade and swimming pool guaranteed boundless family fun. And the cinema hinted at cozy family movie nights.

Our little one, with his boundless energy and insatiable curiosity, was immediately drawn to the softplay area.

And for us? The thought of not having to cook for a couple of nights and perhaps an evening of live entertainment was the cherry on top.

We could already envision the laughter, the games, and the family fun that would fill our evenings.

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park Review Helpful Staff

THE HELPFUL STAFF

But what truly set the tone for our holiday was the warm welcome we received. A smiley woman at the reception desk welcomed us, her warmth radiating with hospitality.

Every question was met with a friendly response, every request addressed with a touch of personal care. She even gifted our son, not just one but two keyrings, completely out of the blue.

Every single person on the Woolacombe Bay team, from the welcoming faces at reception to the diligent maintenance crew, exuded a genuine desire to make our stay memorable. Their eagerness to assist was evident in every interaction.

Traveling with a three-year-old can come with its own set of challenges. There are the unpredictable moods, the endless questions, and the occasional tantrums.

But the staff at Woolacombe Bay seemed to have a magic touch. Whether it was a playful high-five, a little chat about our son’s favourite toys, or simply their patience and understanding, they made our little one feel like the star of the show.

It was evident; guest satisfaction wasn’t just a goal here – it was a passion. And it’s these little moments of human connection, that transform a holiday into an experience.

RESTAURANTS AND FOOD AT WOOLACOMBE BAY

After getting settled into our caravan on that first Friday evening, we were drawn to the on-site bar and restaurant. Its modern, surf-themed decor perfectly captured the essence of a coastal retreat, blending chic design with a relaxed seaside ambiance.

Nestled close to the outdoor terrace, it’s perfect for either a cozy indoor meal or an alfresco dining experience, especially when the weather is on your side.

The menu features mix of dishes that won’t break the bank, much like what you’d find in a hometown pub. Truly there’s something for all tastes, even if like me you are following Slimming World.

And for the kiddos, they’ve got a selection that had our picky three-year-old beaming with joy.

Given the convenience (and maybe a touch of holiday laziness on our part), we found ourselves returning to the main building’s restaurant night after night.

Our culinary journey began with a crispy stone-baked pizza and a flavourful veggie curry. And on our last evening, we simply couldn’t resist the irresistible beef chilli and creamy mac ‘n’ cheese.

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park Review Delivery Service

Post-dinner, we ventured to the Ocean Bar upstairs, where the entertainment was in full swing. They offer an alternative reduced menu, that you can order whilst you are watching that evening’s show.

Night owls will be glad to hear that the takeaway menu remains available even after the downstairs restaurant wraps up for the evening at 9pm.

And for those who cherish convenience as much as we do, there’s also the option to order online and have these delectable dishes delivered straight to your holiday home.

Of course, for a well-rounded review, we had to try the breakfast. And boy, did we indulge! I found my perfect morning combo in the classic full English and a strong coffee, while my husband and our little one couldn’t get enough of the maple-drizzled pancakes.

We even treated ourselves to a lunch of a hearty baked potato and tangy chicken wings.

Our frequent visits to the on-site restaurant are a testament to the quality and variety they offer.

And just a little heads up: while our stay was part of a press trip, all those delicious meals? They were on our dime, and worth every penny!

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park Review Views

THE PANORAMIC VIEWS

Whilst not a facility as such, let’s chat about one of our favourite parts of our recent family trip to Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park. Yep, I’m talking about the panoramic views from the caravan site.

Oh, where do I even begin to describe the mesmerizing views that graced our eyes during our stay at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park?

Every morning, with our three-year-old son bubbling with excitement, we’d take a stroll to the main reception building for breakfast, where we were greeted by a canvas of nature’s finest artwork.

On one side, the lush, rolling countryside stretched out in front of us, a tapestry of greens that seemed to whisper tales of ancient legends. On the other, the vast expanse of the ocean sparkled, its waves dancing and shimmering under the sun’s golden embrace.

And as if that wasn’t enough, every evening, the sky put on a show of its own. The sunsets? Oh, they were nothing short of magical. Hues of orange, pink, and purple merging and melting into one another, casting a golden glow over everything.

As a family who cherishes the serene beauty of nature just as much as the bustling energy of holiday activities, we found our little slice of paradise.

So, if you’re planning a trip to Woolacombe Bay, here’s a pro tip: bring along a good camera or binoculars. Because trust me, you’ll want to capture every moment, every shade of the sky, and every ripple in the water.

And maybe, just maybe, a cozy blanket for those impromptu sunset picnics right outside your caravan.

THE CONVENIENCE STORE

Packing for a trip with a toddler can sometimes mean a few essentials get left behind. But during our recent stay at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park, we discovered the ultimate holiday lifesaver: the on-site Nisa convenience store.

Bursting with a variety of choices, it had everything we could possibly need to whip up a range of delicious meals right in our caravan.

One of the highlights for us was the impressive array of locally sourced products. Fresh produce from nearby farms beckoned from the shelves, from clotted cream to mouth-watering shortbread and fudge, giving us a delightful taste of Devon.

It’s always a win in our books when we can support local businesses, especially when we are on holidays.

Beyond the fresh produce, the store was a treasure trove of essentials. From hand soap, baby supplies, and basic groceries to beach-ready items like swimwear, towels, and beach toys, they had it all.

For the souvenir hunters among us (yes, we are guilty of collecting fridge magnets), the store had a delightful range of mementos.

Of course, being located within the holiday park means prices might be a tad higher than your local supermarket. But what you’re really paying for is the sheer convenience.

Imagine realizing you’ve forgotten the milk for your morning coffee and being able to fetch it within a five-minute stroll from your caravan. Priceless, right?

Whether you’ve forgotten the flip flops, need some nappies, or are craving some local beer, the Nisa convenience store at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park is there to ensure your holiday remains hassle-free and enjoyable.

THE LAUNDRETTE

Between the muddy adventures, impromptu ice cream spills, and just the general wear and tear of a day filled with fun, our little one can easily go through multiple outfits in a single day.

So, the handy laundrette located right next to the convenience shop, immediately caught our eye.

We were only at the park for a short weekend, so we didn’t need to use the laundrette ourselves.

But knowing it was there, just a stone’s throw away from our New Wave Gold Caravan, was reassuring.

It’s one of those things you might not think about, but when you’re on a longer stay with a little one (who likes to jump into every puddle he can find), having laundry facilities nearby is a real bonus.

You could literally just drop off a load of laundry and then pop over to the adjacent shop for some snacks or essentials.

With children, there’s always an unexpected laundry emergency, and it’s great to know Woolacombe Bay has got you covered.

THINGS TO DO AT WOOLACOMBE BAY HOLIDAY PARKS

While we had initially planned to spend our holiday exploring North Devon, the sheer variety of activities on offer at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks kept us occupied for almost the entire weekend.

Rain or shine, there was always something to do. And while we were enamoured by our caravan’s comforts, it was so convenient to have access to countless activities just a stone’s throw away.

So, if you’re curious about how we spent our long weekend away, here’s a glimpse into all the available options and what we actually ended up doing on our long weekend away.

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park booking activities

BOOKING ACTIVITIES IN ADVANCE

As soon as we locked in our holiday dates, the park’s attentive nature shone through.

Promptly, an email landed in our inbox, outlining the vast array of activities available, helping us map out our weekend seamlessly. Subsequent emails nudged us to secure our activity slots ahead of time.

Navigating the park’s intuitive website was a breeze. It offered filters by age and cost, enabling us to handpick activities that resonated with our family’s preferences.

A quick tip from our experience: sought-after activities tend to get booked up fast. So, if you have some must-dos on your list, we’d recommend reserving them ahead of time. It’s a minor effort that ensures a smooth holiday journey.

But if you’re someone who likes to decide in the moment, don’t worry! The approachable reception team is always on hand to help with last-minute bookings.

CLUB PASS WRISTBANDS

With our club pass wristbands in tow (or safely tucked in our wallets), we were ready to dive into the fun.

But here’s the real kicker: the fun isn’t just limited to Woolacombe Bay.

Thanks to our Billy beachball wristband, we could hop over to the sister parks, Twitchen House and Easewell Farm. Each had its own charm and set of activities that kept our days packed with excitement.

FREE ACTIVITIES

Now, let’s talk about the activities. Over our weekend stay, we were spoilt for choice.

The best part? A significant chunk of these activities come at no additional cost. Yes, you read that right! Free activities that promise endless fun. Whether it’s engaging workshops, adventurous outdoor games, or creative sessions, there’s something for every age group.

We will be looking at the activities that have an additional cost further down in this post, but here’s a sneak peek into the treasure trove of FREE activities that kept our family on its toes:

  • Indoor Swimming Pool, Toddler Pool & Flumes
  • Heated Outdoor Pool
  • Adventure Mini Golf
  • Indoor Soft Play Area
  • Outdoor Play Area
  • Woodland Walks & Cycling Trails
  • Geocaching & Bug Hunts

OUTDOOR AND INDOOR SOFT PLAY AREAS

The moment our little one spotted the pirate ship climbing frame in the outdoor play area, his imagination took flight, navigating the high seas and embarking on a quest for hidden treasures.

Positioned conveniently close to the tennis courts and outdoor bowls areas, this play zone became our daily pitstop.

But the fun doesn’t end there. The outdoor area also features a charming crazy golf course. So, while the young ones immerse themselves in pirate adventures, parents can potentially enjoy a round or two, always keeping their little buccaneers within sight.

Come rain or shine, Woolacombe Bay ensures the fun doesn’t stop. And on those drizzly days, families with young children can seek shelter in the indoor soft play area.

A safe haven where kids can climb, slide, and jump, it was the perfect spot for our energetic toddler to burn off some steam.

And for parents? It’s strategically located near dining areas, allowing us to grab a bite while our son played nearby.

Whether you’re waiting for your food or just want a moment’s respite, the free-to-enter soft play area ensures your kids are entertained and in sight.

INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SWIMMING POOLS

October getaways can be a mixed bag when it comes to weather, but at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park, the indoor swimming facilities ensured our family had a splash-tastic time, come rain or shine.

Although we were actually very luck with the weather, we were also eager to dive into the indoor pools at both Woolacombe Bay and Twitchen House.

While we were a tad disappointed that the outdoor pool was off-limits during our October visit, the indoor pools more than made up for it. They provided the perfect setting for our family to bond, play, and create memories.

WOOLACOMBE BAY INDOOR POOL

This pool became our son’s favorite in no time. The toddler area, designed with a nautical theme, features a pirate ship complete with small slides.

Our little one was particularly thrilled with the pirate-themed play area, especially the large bucket that periodically tips over, drenching anyone below with a cascade of water.

It’s a delightful spot for young adventurers to imagine they’re sailing the high seas.

TWITCHEN HOUSE INDOOR POOL

A short distance away, the Twitchen House pool offered a different kind of excitement. Alongside the main pool, the toddler area here boasts playful mushrooms and vibrant aquatic animals that sprinkle water, adding an extra layer of fun.

But the real highlight? The flumes. These waterslides, illuminated from within, promise a thrilling descent. One of the slides even allows an adult and child to ride down together, making it a shared adventure.

THE OUTDOOR POOL

In October, the outdoor pool was unfortunately closed, so sadly we couldn’t experience it firsthand.

However, from what we’ve heard, it’s quite spectacular. Perched with a view of the bay, the ehated pool promises breathtaking panoramas.

We’ve been told that kids are especially drawn to the splash park and the grand outdoor water slide.

The surrounding area is thoughtfully equipped with picnic tables, allowing families to unwind while keeping a vigilant eye on their young adventurers. A poolside cafe, serving tempting ice creams and quick bites, adds to the charm.

A FEW TIPS FOR FELLOW TRAVELERS

To ensure everyone gets a chance to enjoy the pools, each family can book one one-hour swimming session per day. This system ensures that the pools don’t get overcrowded, and every guest has a quality experience.

It’stherfore advisable to book your swimming session in advance, especially during busy periods.

Both indoor swimming pool areas were spacious, making it perfect for families with young children like ours. The pools were clean, well-maintained, and the water temperature was just right.

The changing facilities are spacious, with family-sized options available. And we were pleasantly surprised at how warm the changing area was.

However, do check the lockers before storing your belongings, as some can be a bit finicky. And remember to bring a couple of coins, as the use of lockers is unfortunately not free.

And while there’s always a lifeguard on duty, it’s essential for all kids to have an adult companion by their side.

SPA EXPERIENCE

One of the standout features of Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks is the on-site spa that isoffered that is offered to guests at no extra cost.

Although it does need to be booked in advance, this ensures an intimate, uncrowded setting in which you can truly relax.

With no extra hands to watch over our energetic three-year-old, we couldn’t indulge in the 45 minute long spa experience ourselves. But oh, how we wished we could!

From what we’ve read, the spa boasts two saunas, a refreshing cold pool, therapeutic foot spas, a bubbling jacuzzi, and more.

The ice bucket challenge and heated loungers particularly caught our eye, promising a blend of invigoration and relaxation.

The spa isn’t just for adults. It welcomes those aged 12 and above, making it a shared experience for families with teenagers.

Beyond the complimentary session, the spa offers a range of massages and treatments. After our days filled with exploration and play, the idea of a soothing massage sounds heavenly.

We noted that guests should bring a pound coin for the lockers (it’s refundable). Alternatively, there are benches within the spa to place belongings.

While we couldn’t personally experience the spa at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park this time around, it’s high on our list for our next visit.

And if you are visiting Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks as a couple or have some helping hands for the little ones, make sure to pencil in some spa time. Your body and mind will thank you!

For fitness enthusiasts, the park’s gym facilities might be a tempting proposition.

The highlight among the gym facilities, especially those on a budget, is the free outdoor exercise area.

This space is perfect for those morning stretches, bodyweight workouts, or even a calming yoga session with the backdrop of Woolacombe’s serene landscapes.

It’s a refreshing way to start the day, feeling the cool breeze and soaking in the natural beauty while working up a sweat.

Woolacombe Bay’s commitment to fitness doesn’t stop at the gym. The park also offers a tennis court for those keen on a friendly match.

And if you’re up for trying something a bit different, the disc ball court promises a fun, competitive game.

For those who might want a more traditional workout setting, Woolacombe Bay also houses an on-site gym.

While there’s a small fee of £5 per visit, it’s equipped with a range of machines and weights catering to both cardio and strength training enthusiasts.

POTTERY PAINTING

Painting Pottery was an unexpected highlight of our trip, especially and perhaps surprisingly for me and my husband.

A trip to the Craft Barn is a great choice for anyone with an artistic flair or even those just looking to try their hand at something new. It has loads of cool activities on offer, but we were particularly drawn to the pottery painting.

Here’s how it works: You start by paying an initial fee for the session, which is then deducted from the cost of the pottery pieces you decide to paint.

This means you’re essentially just paying for the unique keepsakes you create.

For those nearing the end of their stay or perhaps in a bit of a hurry, the Art Shack offers a thoughtful service. If your pottery isn’t ready by the time you leave, they’ll conveniently mail it to you.

My husband and I decided to paint egg cup holders – a charming addition to our breakfast table since we didn’t have any at home.

Meanwhile, our young son, ever-enthralled by the world of dinosaurs, eagerly picked out a dino to paint. Watching him, brush in hand, try to meticulously paint his little dino was a sight to cherish. Naturally, at his tender age, he needed a bit of guidance from us.

The Art Shack itself deserves a special mention. The space was immaculate, with every paint, brush, and pottery piece thoughtfully laid out.

Seeing our little one so deeply engrossed in his painting was an unexpected joy. We hadn’t imagined he’d take to it with such enthusiasm! And the member of staff who guide us through the process was incredibly friendly and helpful

The Art Shack’s pottery painting is more than just an activity; it’s an experience. It’s about bonding, creating, and taking home a piece of art that holds memories of a time well spent.

THE CINEMA

We were really excited when we found out that Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park has its very own cinema located in the main building of the caravan park– the perfect rainy-day activity.

And to our even bigger surprise, this cinema even showcases the latest film releases, ensuring guests don’t miss out on the current blockbusters.

So, we thought, “Why not introduce our little one to the magic of the big screen?”

Given our son’s newfound obsession with Paw Patrol, we were thrilled to find out their new movie was playing. It felt like the stars had aligned!

Booking tickets was a breeze. We simply headed to the reception, where they had a detailed cinema schedule for the upcoming week.

After securing our seats, the anticipation began. For us, it wasn’t just about watching a film; it was our son’s first cinema experience. And boy, did it exceed our expectations!

From the moment the movie started, he was completely captivated. The movie had him glued to his seat, making us wonder why we hadn’t done this sooner. It was a heartwarming sight, and it gave us the confidence to plan more cinema outings in the future.

For families with young kids like ours, the cinema is a fantastic option when it’s raining outside. Not only does it offer a change of pace from the outdoor activities, but it also creates a special memory that you can cherish as a family.

So, don’t forget to check out the movie schedule at the reception. Who knows, your favourite film might just be playing!

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park Review Nature Activities Bird Boxes

NATURE ACTIVITIES

At Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park, there’s a neat spot called the GoExplore section, which sounds just perfect for nature loving families like ours who enjoy a bit of outdoor fun.

We had hoped to try out some of these activities, but between our packed itinerary and our young son’s age, we decided to save them for another trip.

Here’s what caught our eye and what we’re hoping to check out next time:

BIRD NEST BOX BUILDING

This hands-on activity allows families to craft their own birdhouses. Kids can pick designs based on their favourite birds and then get to assemble and paint them.

Our little one might be too young now, but we can already imagine him choosing a design in a couple of years!

BEE HOUSE CREATION

Using eco-friendly recycled materials, families can construct homes for bees.

Not only is it a crafty activity, but it’s also educational, teaching kids about the importance of these buzzing pollinators.

FIRE STARTING WORKSHOP

Tailored more for older kids, this workshop teaches them the art of igniting cotton pads using flint and steel.

The best part? It ends with roasting marshmallows and sipping on hot chocolate.

We’re sure our son will be thrilled to try this when he’s a bit older.

NATURE WALK & GEOCACHING

We’ve heard good things about the caravan park’s informative nature hikes and geocaching walks. It sounds like a great way to learn while exploring, and we’re keen to join in when our son’s a bit older.

Oh, and a fun little bonus? Kids get a small award after each activity.

So, if you’re thinking of heading to Woolacombe Bay and have some older kids in tow, these activities might be worth a look. We’re definitely keeping them on our list for next time!

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park Review Arcade at Twitchen House 2

THE ARCADE

As we all know the British weather is pretty unpredictable. Thankfully Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks has several antidote to those occasional drizzly days – the park’s vibrant arcade!

One of these are the vibrant arcades located in the main building of all three caravan parks. These are guaranteed to be a go-to spot for almost all families whenever the skies turned grey.

And for us parents it was a nostalgic journey back to those classic games we all know and love. Remember the thrill of the claw cranes, hoping to snag that elusive plush toy? Or the coin pushers, where you’d eagerly watch, hoping for a cascade of coins? They’ve got them all!

Our three-year-old was wide-eyed with wonder, darting from one game to the next. And while he’s still a tad young for some of the games, the vibrant lights and sounds were entertainment enough!

The arcade is spacious, ensuring there’s something for everyone. From racing games to shooting challenges, it’s a gamer’s paradise.

Unfortunately, while most of the machines were in good nick, we did encounter a few that were a bit temperamental with our coins. But that didn’t stop us from winning a couple gummy bug for our son.

Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park Review Evening Entertainment

EVENING AND MORNING ENTERTAINMENT

Every evening, the park’s licensed clubhouse transforms into a hub of activity. With a food bar serving delicious bites and a stage set for performances, it’s the place to be after a day of adventures in North Devon.

You can find the weekly schedule in your welcome pack or slightly up the stairs on a billboard.

Our three-year-old was particularly enchanted by the early evening shows tailored for kids. The sight of him dancing, giggling, and participating in games was pure joy.

And who could forget the appearance of Billy or Betty Beachball? Those mascots sure know how to keep the little ones entertained!

In fact the entertainment team at Woolacombe Bay deserves a special mention. Their energy, enthusiasm, and dedication to ensuring everyone has a good time is commendable.

For those who fancy a bit of friendly competition, Cash Prize Bingo games kick off the evening. We noticed many families, eagerly waiting for their numbers to be called.

Following the bingo, the atmosphere shifts to a livelier vibe with party dances, game shows, and prizes up for grabs until 9:30 pm.

But the highlight of the night for most are the live performances. Audience participation is a big part of the show, and let’s just say, sitting in the front row might get you more involved than you’d expect!

We had to tuck our son in by 8:30 pm, so we missed the later acts. But, oh, how we wished we could’ve caught Matt Grindley’s hilarious magic act!

If you’re in the mood for a drink, the bar offers a range of beverages at reasonable prices. We appreciated the convenience of the QR codes on the tables, making it super easy to order without leaving our spot.

Finally we should mention that Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks also put on a morning show featuring Woolacombe Bay’s beach ball mascots. A delightful mix of songs and dances that will have your kids clapping and singing along.

For families like ours, attractions such as the Milky Way Adventure Park, the Big Sheep and the whimsical Gnome Reserve promise a day of fun and laughter.

Those with a penchant for hiking will be keen to hear that the South West Coast Path winds its way through Woolacombe, offering breathtaking views of beaches and coves.

And if you’re keen to explore further, the surrounding villages, historic quays, and sandy shores beckon.

Each destination, no more than an hour’s drive from the caravan park, promises a unique experience.

So, if you’re planning a trip, remember to venture beyond the park’s boundaries. A world of adventure awaits!

WOOLACOMBE SANDS

One of the main selling points of Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park was undoubtedly its proximity to the renowned Woolacombe Sands.

So, on Sunday, after waking up in our caravan and enjoying a hearty breakfast at the restaurant, we set-off on the short walk to one of the UK’s top-rated beaches.

The journey to the beach itself is an adventure. There are several paths leading down to the bay, which take about 30 minutes with a 3-year-old.

While the beach is easily accessible by foot, it’s worth noting that the path can be a bit steep in places and might not be the best for prams. However, the views and the experience are well worth the effort.

For those who prefer to drive, it’s just a quick five-minute journey, though parking can get busy during the peak summer months.

As we meandered through, we were greeted by an open field dotted with sheep. The sight of our son’s excitement at seeing these animals up close was priceless.

Emerging from the bushy trail that followed, we were met with the breathtaking expanse of Woolacombe Bay.

The beach, with its three miles of golden sands, has earned accolades from TripAdvisor’s Traveller Choice Awards, ranking as the 6th best beach in Europe and even making the list of the top 20 beaches worldwide. It’s also been crowned the best beach in the UK, boasting the ‘England for Excellence Gold Award’.

But beyond these impressive titles, it’s simply a fantastic spot for families. Our son was instantly drawn to the sands, eager to build sandcastles and dip his toes in the water.

The beach is also a hotspot for surfers, and for those keen to try their hand at riding the waves, lessons are available at the Woolacombe Surf Centre.

Along the beachfront, a variety of shops, restaurants, and cafes offer everything you might need for a perfect day out (for instance ice-cream).

We even stumbled upon a charming surfer pub and restaurant, the Red Barn, ideal for a refreshing drink or a quick bite before you head back.

CROYDE BEACH

In addition to Woolacombe Sands, there’s also the more secluded Croyde Beach.

Although nearby, this beach is not really accessible by foot from the caravan park. So you will need to take your car.

This beach offers a different vibe, surrounded by rocky cliffs it offers a sense of tranquility and has always been one of our family favourites. It’s great if you want to take your kids rockpooling or love villages with thatched cottages.

ILFRACOMBE

Ilfracombe, once a bustling Victorian seaside resort, still retains much of its old-world charm.

A testament to this bygone era is the Tunnel Beaches, where you can traverse through cliff tunnels, emerging into picturesque turquoise coves. It’s a completely unique experience.

Juxtaposed against this Victorian backdrop is a modern marvel that has become the talk of the town in recent years – the Verity Statue by Damien Hirst. Standing tall at around 20 metres and weighing an impressive 25 tonnes, this stainless steel statue of the Goddess of Truth is a sight to behold.

For those with an adventurous spirit, Ilfracombe cruises offer a chance to sail to Lundy Island. The promise of spotting seals, puffins, and other wildlife on the island had us excited, though we saved that adventure for a future visit.

MORTEHOE VILLAGE AND MORTE POINT

Just a short distance from the holiday park, Mortehoe Village is described as a charming enclave, complete with a historic church, welcoming pubs, delightful cafés, and a must-try fish and chip shop.

Beyond the village, Mortehoe Point, maintained by the National Trust, holds a rich tapestry of history.

From stories of shipwrecks to tales of smuggling, the rugged coastline of Mortehoe seems to be a living testament to North Devon’s intriguing past.

You could also follow the scenic trails of both Morte Point and Bull Point along the coast. The lighthouse standing tall against the backdrop of the vast ocean is apparently a sight to behold.

And for those moments of tranquility, the sandy stretch of Rockham Bay provides the perfect setting.

APPLEDORE

Appledore exudes a quaint charm with its colourful houses, ancient shopping streets, and serene harbour views.

Visitors can’t help but be enchanted by the boats bobbing gently in the harbour and the vibrant hues of the houses.

A leisurely walk through Irsha Street will take you past more picturesque homes and the inviting facade of The Royal George, a renowned seaside pub.

WESTWARD HO!

Westward Ho! Has the unique distinction of being the only town in the UK named after a book and boasting an exclamation point, was our first stop. The town’s quirky name is inspired by Charles Kingsley’s novel.

While the town has its own eccentric charm, it was a tad different from the usual Devon allure. But the it’s expansive golden sands coastline is a hotspot for surfers.

The waves, the vast stretch of sand, and the backdrop of shops and seaside entertainment on the promenade paint a lively picture.

CLOVELLY

Just 50 minutes away is the enchanting village of Clovelly. Visiting this place feels like stepping into a storybook.

Nestled on the North Devon coast, the village’s main street is so steep that cars are a no-go, and it’s quite a sight to see locals using traditional sledges to transport their goods down the cobbled pathways.

This unique feature alone makes Clovelly stand out, but there’s so much more to this historic fishing village.

The white-washed buildings, the cobbled streets, the gentle hum of village life and Clovelly’s harbour create an atmosphere that’s both tranquil and captivating.

Charles Kingsley Museum offers a deep dive into his life and works, and it’s a must-visit for literary enthusiasts.

And if you’re feeling peckish after the walk, the Red Lion pub offers a cozy spot for a hearty lunch.

For the more adventurous, a hike over the boulder beach leading to the Clovelly Waterfall is a treat. And if local legends are to be believed, the cave behind this waterfall is the birthplace of Merlin from the King Arthur tales!

We should note that while Clovelly is a privately-owned village, there’s a small fee to enter. This contribution helps preserve its rich heritage, ensuring future generations can experience its charm. Tickets can be easily booked online.

On your drive to Clovelly, you might also notice the whimsical hamlet of Fairy Cross, marked by quaint towers adorned with fairy weathervanes.

And for those with a penchant for the quirky, the nearby Gnome Reserve at Merry Harriers, boasting a collection of over 2000 gnomes, offers a delightful detour – and it’s free!

LYNTON AND LYNMOUTH

Located just a short drive from Woolacombe Bay, are the twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, often referred to as “Little Switzerland” for their breathtaking scenery.

Perched on the North Devon coast, these two villages offer a unique experience.

Lynton sits gracefully atop the cliff, offering panoramic views of the coastline, while Lynmouth nestles at the bottom, with its historic harbour and the gentle sounds of the sea.

The contrast between the two, with one village overlooking the other, is a sight to behold.

But what truly fascinates most children is the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway. As the world’s highest and steepest cliff railway, it provides an exhilarating journey between the two villages.

Beyond the railway, the area is rich in natural beauty and history. The magical Valley of the Rocks is a highlight in itself, with its intriguing rock formations and legends

HARTLAND QUAY

Hartland Quay is a destination that promises a blend of natural allure and historical intrigue.

From the captivating Hartland Point to the mesmerizing cascade of Speke’s Mill Mouth Waterfall, the area seems to be a treasure trove of sights.

But it’s Hartland Quay that’s often spotlighted as the crown jewel. It’s also where they filmed the Netflix show “Rebecca”. In fact, the boat Je Reviens can be found near the car park.

Venturing further into the quay, there’s the Wrecker’s Retreat. This isn’t just any restaurant; it’s steeped in history, having once been a bustling smuggling inn during the 18th century.

Imagine sipping a drink while being surrounded by tales of smugglers and their covert escapades from centuries past!

For the more adventurous souls, the South West Coast Path beckons. From what we’ve heard, it offers unparalleled views of the coastline, with many hidden gems along the way.

DUNSTER MEDIEVAL VILLAGE

Imagine a place where time seems to have stood still, where the echoes of the medieval era resonate in every corner. That’s Dunster for you.

You might even already have driven past it on your way to Minehead in Devon. But have you been to it?

The village is divided into two captivating parts: the Dunster Castle area and the medieval village itself.

The castle, with its roots tracing back to the Norman era, began as a Motte and Bailey. Over the centuries, it transformed, eventually becoming a grand country house.

Today, it stands as a testament to the rich tapestry of history, with the National Trust ensuring its preservation.

Inside, the rooms are said to be a visual treat, each telling a story of its own.

And if you’re visiting with kids, like our three-year-old son, the watermill is a must-visit. Watching how flour is made the traditional way can be quite the educational experience!

But the journey doesn’t end at the castle. The medieval village beckons with its iconic yarn market.

As you stroll through its cobbled streets, you’ll find an array of shops, tearooms, museums, and galleries, each offering a slice of Dunster’s rich heritage.

OTHER NOTEWORTHY PLACES TO VISIT NEAR WOOLACOMBE BAY

It’s baffling to think that Exmoor National Park is the least visited national park in the UK, especially when you witness its breathtaking beauty.  The rolling landscapes, the serene ambiance, and the untouched beauty makes wonder why it remains such an underrated gem.

Combe Martin is a picturesque cove that seems to have jumped straight out of a postcard. With its sandy beach, quaint cafés, and charming shops, it’s the perfect spot for a family day out.

For a wilder adventure, the Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park is an absolute hit! From roaring dinosaurs to exotic animals, it was a thrilling experience. Our son’s eyes lit up with wonder as he came face-to-face with life-sized dinosaurs and watched the playful antics of the park’s diverse wildlife. It’s not every day you get to journey from the prehistoric era to the present in just a few hours!

Porlock Weir is another delightful destination. This harbourside village, with its pebble beach, inviting pub, and art-filled galleries, offers a peaceful retreat.

The National Trust Arlington Court is a treasure trove of history and natural beauty. This grand estate offered a delightful journey through time. The meticulously preserved rooms, the vast gardens, and the intriguing carriage museum make for a fascinating day out.

While Barnstaple might not leave a lasting impression, it’s worth noting for those who might be looking for a more urban experience. With its array of shops and pubs, it offers a different vibe compared to the tranquil countryside.

Finally, we also wanted to mention the enchanting hamlets of Allerford and Selworthy. Walking through these villages you will spot lots of thatched cottages with intricate designs and a certain old-world charm.

OUR WOOLACOMBE BAY HOLIDAY PARK REVIEW – FINAL WORDS

As the sun set on our last day at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park, we sat back, reflecting on the myriad of memories we’d crafted. Every moment at the caravan park was filled with joy, discovery, and the simple pleasures of family bonding.

For families seeking the perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and value for money, this place is nothing short of a treasure trove.

Admittedly, we had never spent a holiday at a caravan park before, and so we approached this trip with a mix of excitement and uncertainty.

But any reservations we had were quickly dispelled the moment we stepped into our New Wave Gold Caravan. It wasn’t just accommodation; it was a home away from home, equipped with every conceivable amenity to ensure our comfort.

The caravan’s proximity to the park’s facilities and the breathtaking local beaches was the cherry on top.

The value proposition of Woolacombe Bay is undeniable. Our caravan, combined with access to three holiday park facilities, offered an experience that was worth every penny.

From budget-friendly options to premium lodges like the Surf Lodge, there’s something for every pocket, ensuring that no one misses out on the magic of Woolacombe Bay.

Our son’s gleeful laughter as he engaged in the myriad of activities on offer was music to our ears. From free family-friendly activities to paid adventures, there was never a dull moment.

In fact, three nights felt all too short, and we found ourselves wishing for a few more days to soak it all in. The park’s offerings are so vast that even a week seems insufficient to explore it all.

The staff at Woolacombe Bay deserve a special mention. Their warmth, understanding, and flexibility ensured our stay was smooth and memorable.

The freedom to book events at our convenience, coupled with the park’s walkable layout, made our experience stress-free.

We’re already looking forward to our next visit, eager to explore more of what Woolacombe Bay and its sister parks in Devon have to offer.

Note: Our heartfelt thanks go to the Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks team for making this trip possible. While our stay was complementary, every emotion and memory we’ve shared is genuine and our own.
