Chinese New Year London 2017 - Parade through Soho - A Life Beautifully Travelled
It is finally here! The Year of the Rooster has come upon us, and as usual, Chinese New Year in London was one of the most exciting events in the capital, full of colour, noise, dragons, decorations and dancers. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people descend on the West End to wish each other "Xin Nian Kuai Le" (Happy New Year in Mandarin) or "San Nin Faai Lok". London celebrates Chinese New Year better than anywhere else (except for China, of course). So year get your dragon dancing shoes on, grab your chopsticks and head down to Soho. The day usually kicks off at 10am with a colourful Chinese New Year parade that snakes its way from Charing Cross Road (just to the north of Trafalgar Square) to Shaftesbury Avenue. This hugely popular event features six hand-crafted floats and the largest gathering of Chinese lion and dragon dance performers in the UK. The parade ends in Trafalgar Square, where the traditional opening ceremony takes place from 11am to 5pm. Join the mob for a combination of music, lion dance, dragon dancers and acrobatics. _________________ The video was filmed in February 2016 on my handheld camcorder.
