HEY THERE FELLOW WANDERLUSTER AND WELCOME TO A LIFE BEAUTIFULL TRAVELLED!!!
Do you have a full-time job? Do you LOVE to travel? Do you wish you could travel more? Then you have come to the right place!
My name is Katharina. I am an Architect by day and just like you, I have a severe case of wanderlust, but like so many of you I also have limited vacation days.
But here’s the thing – that doesn’t have to put an end to your daydreams of exploring other countries and cultures. You just need the right tools and enough motivation to get off that couch and realise your dreams.
I promise it really is possible to lead a fulfilled life, packed with adventure WITHOUT quitting your full-time job. Join me as I attempt to find the right balance between exploring the world and being a nine to five professional.
It might not be an easy balance to achieve, but I’m giving it a try and want to help you do the same.
A BLOG FOR THE PART-TIME TRAVELLER
The authors of most travel blogs are nomads, expats and long-term travellers. As much as I love those blogs and use them for inspiration, they are in a way unrelatable.
This blog targets those of us who only have a limited amount of vacation days per year. I’m no nomad, I don’t get to spend all my days tasting the cuisine and experiencing the intricacies of the rest of the world.
Am I okay with this? Yes. I like having my own space to call home, I enjoy my job, and I love sleeping in my own bed. Most days, I couldn’t survive without my memory pillow. Sometime you just want to cook your own meal. Plus, having roots, in many ways, makes travel so much more exciting.
MAKE TRAVEL A PRIORITY IN YOUR LIFE
I’m able to take numerous weekend trips throughout the year in addition to once-in-a-lifetime vacations to places like Japan and Thailand every summer.
Does that make me lucky? Of course. But I have also made this possible by prioritising travel in my life.
Am I rich? Nope. Did I inherit money from relatives? Nada. Win the lotto? I wish. I just work my tail off and plan, financially and strategically, for my travels.
My boyfriend and I spend a good portion of the year saving up our money, which means sacrificing some of life’s little pleasures throughout the year. But, is it worth it? Definitely!
I have also been lucky enough to live in some of the greatest cities in the world– Paris, Glasgow Edinburgh, with international airports at my fingertips.
MAKE THE MOST OF THE WEEKEND AND TRAVEL LOCALLY
I want to show you how to plan your trips efficiently, by not just budgeting your money but also budgeting your time.
Travelling the world, whilst holding down a full-time job is all about the weekend. Whether you’re going to stay in your local area or hop on a plane, you need to master the weekend to make the most of it.
A Life Beautifully Travelled therefore focuses mainly on weekend adventures and day-trips. In my opinion travel starts locally. We often forget to explore the amazing locations that are right on our doorstep. Two years ago my boyfriend and I moved to London. Since then we travel largely around the UK. We make the most of each weekend, by exploring London or the countryside further afield. I aim to unearth and introduce you to this country’s best kept secrets. England has a lot to offer for the keen traveller and we still haven’t discovered everything there is to see.
If like me you are lucky enough to live in Europe, a whole world of possibilities is open to you. Flights within Europe are generally cheap. There certainly are ways to find great deals. It is entirely feasible to travel to another European country and back in one day. Or you could spend a full weekend in another city.
So whatever weekend getaway in the UK or Europe you’re looking for, let me be your guide. Have a browse through my website and discover my restaurant, hotel, and B&B recommendations in the UK and Europe. I write watch post, story, review and itinerary personally to give you an insider’s view and help you decide if it’s right for your weekend getaway.
TRAVEL THE WORLD IN TWO WEEKS OR LESS
Now, I’m not suggesting you only travel around the UK and Europe. As interesting as this continent may be, the world is far too big and some of my most cherished memories are of trips abroad.
Since early childhood I have lived in a whole range of Countries. I have also been lucky enough to Travel the World from a very young age and I continue to do so today. In fact I have travelled the world as long as I can remember. My Dad frequently whisked us off on wild Adventures in far-flung places, such as Africa, the Canary Islands, the Caribbean Islands and Egypt. These Childhood Vacations played a big part in forming the person I am today and pried my mind wide open to this very diverse World.
So alongside stories of our weekend adventures and day trips, on this travel blog, you will find two week itineraries for adventures abroad. Two weeks is generally the longest period that most professionals can dedicate to travel in one time. I will show you how to make the most of those 14 days.
My mission however is to do more than travel the world; I want to really get to know it. The main theme behind my blog and my travel ethics is deeper, more intelligent travel. My travel styles vary from trip to trip, but the hunt for a good story is always the same. I love to travel and explore, to get lost and discover hidden gems, to chat to locals about their culture, and – most of all – to discover a place through its food.
